Review: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsession
Jennifer L. Armentrout

Synopsis
This is a stand alone novel that is an adult spin-off of the Lux Series You do not need to read a Lux book to read Obsession and vice versa.

He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.

Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.

Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.

Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?

REVIEW

I've been putting off this review, as bad as that comes off. It's because I don't feel like my words are adequate enough to say exactly how I feel. I loved this book. I mean honestly, please comment on this if you agree Hunter is way better then Daemon. I personally started this thinking: well I've wanted to read this forever, why not. Why not. Come on, I fell in love with the freaking thing!!

Hunter

The characters were great. And I must say my favourite thing about Serena: she doesn't hide or scream at every little thing. She was the perfect challenge for Hunter. It was beautiful, because Hunter always thought he was incapable of love. All Hunter's comebacks, as well as Serena's, were awesome. And I loved Hunter's comments to the Luxen, like lite-brite and glow stick. Just awesome.

Screw Luxens, I'll be searching the shadows for an Arum. Hello ladies, I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Hunter hottie. Did you love the Lux series? Yes? Then read this. If you're comfortable with adult romance, read it. The only problem I had with this book was the sort of unresolved ending. There were a few loose ends. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that they get resolved in the Lux books? Most likely. And the problem with that is this can be read as a standalone, because it is a standalone. Unfortunately for us Arum lovers. Honestly, I don't think I'll be able to read Lux without thinking about how hot the Arum are now, and I'll just be in mourning for Hunter this book.

Reasons to read this NOW:
1. Hunter
2. Very easy story to get into
3. You get to see Daemon
4. A fun read about supernatural creatures that most people are scared off, but make you actually want to meet one... you know, just out of curiosity
5. It's Jennifer L. freaking Armentrout

Reader Problems Book Tag

I got tagged by Miss Movie of Canada, who previously saw this tag on Enchated at YA. It looks fun to do, so here goes... without further ado, the READER PROBLEMS TAG

You have 20,000 books on your TBR, how do you decide what to read?
Usually I actually delete books from my TBR that I previously own so that my TBR on goodreads is all books I don't own, because the big numbers (like 1034) make me nervous.

You're halfway through a book, and hating it. Do you quit, or commit?
I finish that sucker so I can tell everyone how much I despised it, from beginning to end.

The end of the year is near, and your so close, but so far from your goodreads challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?
Usually at the beginning of the year, I make a goal I feel is attainable, usually around 50 books. A few years ago, my goal started at 100 and ended up being 30 because my reading habits change a lot through a year.

The covers of a series do not match. How do you cope?
I go on amazon to find the covers that do match and I usually order them, or if I see the covers are changing, I buy the old covers before the new ones come out... then buy the new ones too.

Everyone and their mother loves a book you just didn't love. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?
I go onto goodreads and rate the book, then tell people to comment below if they feel the same feels as me.

You're reading a book and you're about to cry in public. How do you deal?
I usually don't cry during books, but if it were to happen, I'd probably stop reading. I do not like to cry in public. However, if I must go on with the book in public, I'd hold it all in until a later time when I can cry.

A sequel of a book you love just came out, but you forgot a lot from the prior novel. Do you re-read, skip the sequel, find a summary, or just cry in frustration?
I just skim the first, or even go into the second blind. It's not the best idea, but it works.

You do not want anyone borrowing your books. How do you politely tell no when they ask.
I don't politely tell them, I usually say "oh, you should read that... I think the library might have it."

Reading ADD. You've picked up and put down 5 different books in the last month. How do you get over a reading slump?
Reading on my kindle works well usually. And then once I get out of the slump, I read as much as possible because I don't know how long it will last.

There are so many books coming out that you're dying to read. How many do you buy?
I save up, and buy them all in one go.

After you've bought the books you can't wait to get to, how long do they sit there collecting dust?
I usually read say 4 out of the 10 I buy, then wait a few weeks. But I do (hopefully) get to the books later.

Well, that's all. Comment below linking to yours!

Reading Machine

I have been a reading machine these past few days. I've been so sick and yet, I'm like to my sickness:

I was all up in face.... Okay, so not really. But, I did get a few days off that I (happily may I add) read a few books.

First, I read Harry Potter #1 on Monday, And Then There Were None on Wednesday, Tempting the Best Man on Thursday, Obsession on Friday, and now today, I read Rumble.

The next real question, is what shall I read next? Do me a favor, comment below with your recs. I'm feeling in the mood to read new adult/adult and a romance because, let me tell ya, Rumble was a heavy book.

After receiving a $10 Amazon gift card, I tried to salvage as much from it for my kindle books as I could. I love kindle books, but it can be so hard to find good prices because some are a little too pricey for me. However, I found good books this week so here's my list!

PAPERBACK

Twisted by Emma Chase

Honestly, I got SO excited when I saw this at Value Village. I was maybe too excited because everyone there was glaring at me. Maybe they were jealous I got the awesome read for FIVE DOLLARS!!

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson

I hear mixed things about this book. Another one I found at the thrift shop and got for five dollars, hopefully that five dollars was worth it!

KINDLE

Tempting the Best Man by J. Lynn

A book I bought on a whim. It sounded good. I'm dyin' for some good NA books. If you have some recommendations, please comment with them!

Rome by Jay Crownover

I haven't read any books in this series yet, but I own the first in paperback, and wanted to read Rome a lot; when I saw the 0.89 on my wishlist, I bought it right away not knowing if the price would raise or not.

Last to Know by Michalea Smeltzer

This was a lowered price and when I saw the 0.00 on amazon, BAM! I bought it.
STILL FREE ON AMAZON

Obsession by J. Lynn/Jennifer L. Armentrout

I've wanted to read this one for so long. I've been on the fence about buying it for 2.99 but when I looked at some reviews, I bought it immediately.

Review: Tempting the Best Man by J. Lynn

Tempting the Best Man (Gamble Brothers #1)

Synopsis
She'll make him lose control...

Madison Daniels has worshipped her brother's best friend since they were kids. Everyone thinks she and Chase Gamble would make the perfect couple, but there are two major flaws in their logic. 1) Chase has sworn off relationships of any kind, and 2) after blurring the line between friends and lovers for one night four years ago, they can't stop bickering.

Forced together for her brother's wedding getaway, Chase and Madison decide to call a truce for the happy couple. Except all bets are off when they're forced to shack up in a tacky 70’s honeymoon suite and survive a multitude of "accidents" as the family tries to prove their "spark" can be used than for more than fighting. That is, if they don't strangle each other first…

REVIEW

Aaah, J. Lynn. Awesome book, awesome characters.

However, I must say that sometimes, J. Lynn's books can get slightly frustrating because they seem to follow some sort of pattern. Not saying that I don't like that pattern, but it get's frustrating because, as much as I'd love to sit down and read fourteen J. Lynn books at the same time, I would get bored easily. That does NOT stop me from doing so though. Sometimes I just need a little break in between though so that I can enjoy her books to the max.

Chase was super sweet, especially with the cheesecake and roses thing *swoons* but not so great at looking ahead and seeing what might be thought of by his actions. Either way, I liked him. Yes, I also liked Maddy - I mean, Madison. Goodness knows she hates to be called Maddy. And yet, Chase continues to call her it; kind of cute if you ask me.

I plan to finish the series and definitely recommend to fans of Entangled Brazen or J. Lynn!

Blog Tour: WHEN I'M GONE by Abbi Glines + GIVEAWAY

WHEN IM GONE by Abbi Glines
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in the Rosemary Beach series, in which we meet Mase, a Texas heartthrob first introduced in Take a Chance who comes to Rosemary Beach to stir things up.

I had an urge to fix all her problems. Which was stupid. She was doing fine without me. But something about those big eyes…

Mase Colt-Manning has always preferred his humble life as a Texas rancher to his birthright as the son of a legendary rock star. In fact, he rarely visits his father’s rarefied world in Rosemary Beach, especially if it means bunking at his vile half-sister Nan’s house—until one visit leads to a chance encounter with a young, gorgeous house maid who awakens him with her off-key but spirited imitation of a country music star…

Reese Ellis finally has her freedom. After escaping a lifetime of abuse from her parents and classmates for an undiagnosed learning disorder, she seizes the opportunity to be a house maid to some of the richest families in Rosemary Beach. But her job is in jeopardy when she causes an accident at the home of her most important client, Nan Dillon. When a hot, half-naked stranger with a cowboy’s swagger comes to her rescue, she’s intrigued—then afraid once he shows his own interest. Reese has never met a trustworthy man in her life. Will Mase be any different?

REVIEW

I received an advanced readers copy from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. So much to say, so little space to say it. Basically, I love it. Abbi Glines is one of my favourite authors and I can't explain my excitement when I see a new book by her. Honestly, when I see that, I might as well just give it 5 stars because I know I'll love it. Like I loved this one. Honestly, this has got to be my favourite book in the Rosemary Beach series so far. I mean, I loved, loved loved Woods; but... then there's Grant, but also Tripp. How to decide. But after I read this book, uh yeah, no brainer. I fell for the cowboy.

I found this story to be different from Abbi's usual route; it felt different because of Reese's upbringing and the abuse she grew up with. It was interesting to see Reese and Mase fall for one another without sex being a huge factor. I mean, obviously they were both sexually attracted to one another, but Reese was guarded unlike any other girl in the Rosemary Beach series because of the abuse she suffered. And Mase was definitely different from Rush, Woods, Grant, and Tripp. He wasn't a rich kid growing up, I mean sure, Kiro was his father, but he chose a different route and I loved his character and choices. The awesome thing about this book was there wasn't a random break-up in the middle of it.

The story was great. Abbi set it up as if she knew exactly what was going to happen when, and it didn't seem to have any parts in the story that were unclear. It flowed well and I must say, I loved Mase and Reese together; they compliment each other so well. Honestly, every time I read an Abbi Glines book, she always chooses the perfect couple, it's awesome that characters aren't always just like one another. Another success for Abbi Glines.

If you loved any of the Rosemary Beach, READ THIS. YOU WILL LOVE IT.

"Seven . . ."
Who among them is the killer and will any of them survive?

AGATHA CHRISTIE
Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born in Torquay, Devon, England, U.K., as the youngest of three. The Millers had two other children: Margaret Frary Miller (1879–1950), called Madge, who was eleven years Agatha's senior, and Louis Montant Miller (1880–1929), called Monty, ten years older than Agatha.

During the First World War, she worked at a hospital as a nurse; later working at a hospital pharmacy, a job that influenced her work, as many of the murders in her books are carried out with poison.

On Christmas Eve 1914 Agatha married Archibald Christie, an aviator in the Royal Flying Corps. The couple had one daughter, Rosalind Hicks. They divorced in 1928, two years after Christie discovered her husband was having an affair.

REVIEW

I think the only reason this didn't appeal to me in the way it has many others is because I could guess the murderer from the beginning. But, slowly, lines got blurred and I started to guess other people. I had two guesses right from the beginning. And when I had a guess, in the end of the story, I was correct. And then I wasn't. Honestly, I got very frustrated with this book. I was wrong, but I was also right in my guess. And this is a reason for why I didn't like this book. I will say this though: Agatha Christie is very good at mystery books. She set up the story so well right from the beginning and I just chose to ignore all the warning signs. I wanted to go with my gut, but didn't. Unfortunately: if I had, I would have been right.

I found that I loved the poem in the book, the Ten Little Indians story. It was fascinating and interesting. Very interesting indeed, because slowly each murder was going about just as each "indian" was gotten rid of in the poem. The story was easy to get through and certainly held the readers attention, however, I found that what really got me was the names. They frustrated me to no end; how was I suppose to remember all those names and who they were? It was hard for me to follow sometimes and by the time I actually got the hang of who everyone was, half the people were slaughtered.

The story was interesting enough to captivate me, but not interesting enough for a higher rating. It reminded me a lot of the movie Clue.
